OUR 72 HOUR TRIP TO NYC - the Big Apple

I know it’s busy a week since I got back - life gets so busy - this is by far one of my favourite trips - one on one time with Scarlett we laughed from the moment we set off and on ... I have so many fond memories of NYC I had been here a couple of years before with one of my best friends to visit a friend who had moved to NYC.

Quite a few of you reached out to me about our trip to the Big Apple. I have listed below for ease some of the places I recommend and included places we stayed, ate and shopped.

HOTELS

There are quite a few to choose from. We stayed at the Mr and Mrs Smith hotel in Chelsea. Comfortable bed, spacious room and the staff were so helpful so cannot complain. Also great location to see the sights of New York.

Hotel Hugo - perfect for art and industry - ( I had lots of meetings in ten art district and by exhibition with New York Fashion Week was around the corner at the Norwood Club on 14th street - )

If I hadn’t been able to get in I would have stayed at the Crosby Street Hotel is gorgeous set in its cobbled soho streets. The interior design is by Kit Kemp and is so fresh with a real contemporary style. It has its own bar, a private leafy garden, guest drawing room, several stylish private event and meeting rooms, a luxurious 99 seat screening room and fully equipped gym.

I do also love the nomad New York which is above the flatiron district and the Bowery which is retro glamour in the post punk east village and one more - sixty soho just because the service is super slick and has a super sharp sense of style.

If your eco friendly but want to enjoy all creature comforts - 1 Hotel Central Park is phenomenal - set in a gorgeous spot -  the whole hotel is a superb combination of architectural detail and greenery infused at every turn.

RESTAURANTS

One of my favourites is La Goulue - this is old school timeless elegance - it’s on 29 E 61st St, NY on the upper east side. I so recommend their steak - you must have the French fries 🤣 as I have never tasted as good.

Just around the corner from us were:

TAO -  92 9th Av New York NY 10011 both Scarlett and I absolutely loves Asian fusion - Trust me when I say the seabass starter melts in your mouth. Great ambiance and a nice crowd in the evenings.

The Norwood Club is also great for dining but you need to be a member. It is super chilled with a relaxed vibe and is a living hub for art and culture.

Joe’s pizza 🍕 - walk in - I am a real foodie and we both literally devoured it!! 🤣 Top quality pizza and always busy because it is so delicious.

The Mark either for cocktails and dinner or just cocktails - I know the cosmopolitan is an obvious choice but I think this is the best one I have ever had!! It hosts a world class menu which is showcased in a stunning copper and glass wall in the dining room. The dining room is elegant and sophisticated and it is truly an experience for foodies.

SHOPPING

FAO Schwartz I couldn’t not get Georgia a gift - I try to be equal at all times with all my girls. This is a toy store unlike any other. I bought her the most gorgeous unicorn teddy.  This iconic toy store is an experience like no other. On entering it sparks the child in all of us and we of course had a go on the giant piano from the movie Big.

Century 21

You need to know about this store - I have been coming here for years - on one visit I managed to buy over 100 matching dresses for the girls - this is a store where it’s all designer but 80 percent off!! It also has an amazing women’s and shoe section and that’s where we found Scarlett’s Stella McCartney ( iconic)(her words) trainers, my new Yves Saint Laurent bag supplies with all authenticity paperwork

Lose yourself in BLOOMINGDALES and Macy’s. Always a must when in NYC, they have an international reputation for quality, creativeness and uniqueness. And to think it all started with a 19th century fad - the hoop skirt.

SPA

I am obsessed with Barbara Sturm face products - we popped into her spa on 670 Broadway - where we both had cryotherapy not that Scarlett’s teenage skin needed tightening 🤣 - she LOVED it!! My skin felt rejuvenated and looked really clear. I stocked up on products but have just found out that they stock them in Space NK in London now...

FUN THINGS TO DO

Screenshot 2020-05-28 at 12.28.31.png

We didn’t walk the high line ( but know the views are incredible as it’s a 1.45 mile long elevated park) - as we just ran out of time and wanted to spend our last morning in the hip Williamsburg bursting with art on buildings hoc boutiques, trendy cafes and only just a quick cab out of Manhattan.

Times Square - and I nearly froze however cold didn’t deter her she was mesmerised by the bright lights and electronic bill boards  and broadway theatres

Art exhibitions - I always try to mention as many as possible on my Flat Space Art insta story.

GETTING AROUND

Screenshot 2020-05-28 at 12.31.19.png

Download UBER - although subways are the quickest way from getting from downtown and the yellow cabs are the perfect NEW YORK TAXI!!!! Moment

I think February was a brilliant time to go (art season) would definitely go in the Fall too ... and that’s it - I truly recommend this vibrant city either as a great weekend get away but also for one on one time with any of your children - such special time!! Promise also to do fashion edits ... coming up soon!
